The City of Hanford (http://www.ci.hanford.ca.us) was settled by the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was incorporated in 1891 and is the county seat for the County of Kings. Hanford is known for its agricultural production. There are many dairies, ranches and farms in the area. Major crops are corn, various types of fruits, nuts and cotton. Hanford boasts several school districts and churches. Culturally, Hanford has China Alley which is on the list of endangered historical sites in California.
Hanford has a charming downtown complete with a carousel next to the historic courthouse. Every Thursday from May through October Hanford Main Street hosts a market night for local produce and crafts. Hanford is the quintessential image of small town America.
